Insulating ceramics are an important category of electronic ceramic materials. In the 1950s, electronic ceramic materials began to be used in electronic components such as capacitors, filters, piezoelectric elements, and insulators.

Alumina ceramics are among the earliest oxide ceramic materials researched and applied. According to statistics, the overall market size of alumina ceramics in China was approximately 84.93 billion yuan in 2023.

The development of oxide ceramics in China began in the 1960s and 70s, during which time technological applications were limited and development was relatively slow. From the 1970s to the early 21st century, the industry entered a startup phase, with enhanced independent innovation capabilities and improvements in technology and product quality. Since the early 21st century, the industry has entered a development phase, evolving towards high-end and green technologies.

In the field of key raw materials, China has achieved a series of breakthroughs in domestic production. For example, in the early 21st century, special alumina materials used in CRT color TV picture tube sealing and electronic ceramic casting chip substrates were successfully developed. Subsequently, special alumina used in the production of single-crystal silicon wafer grinding and TFT-LCD liquid crystal substrate glass were also domestically produced.
