How to determine if a 55-2 pin insulator is suitable?

Misuse of 55-2 pin insulators may lead to decreased insulation performance or insufficient mechanical strength, especially in high-voltage scenarios where the risks are more pronounced. Two key points should be checked before actual installation:

Voltage level matching: The rated voltage of the 55-2 model is typically suitable for medium-voltage lines. Forcing its use at higher voltage levels may cause partial discharge on the surface.

Mechanical load exceeding limits: Its steel foot structure differs from suspension insulators; excessive lateral force can easily cause breakage from the root.

For quick on-site usability assessment, it is recommended to use an insulator tester to measure the distributed voltage. If an abnormal voltage distribution is found on an insulator (e.g., close to zero), it often indicates that its insulation performance is substandard. Portable testers can directly test under energized conditions, avoiding downtime losses due to disassembly.

For insulators in long-term operation, material aging should also be monitored. In heavily polluted industrial areas or salt spray regions, the surface of 55-2 pin insulators made of ceramic is more prone to contamination, leading to flashover. If their use is unavoidable in such scenarios, regular cleaning and anti-flashover coating treatment should be applied.
